Majestic and Beautiful Winter Palace

The Hermitage is one of the first-rate museums in Russia and the whole world. Each visitor can find something interesting there. The museum truly contains nearly 70 000 paintings, sculptures, various memorials. There are several hundred show-rooms in Winter Palace, Small Hermitage, Old and New Hermitage and hall.

The Hermitage museum is the complex of five buildings that was constructed over XVIII-XIX centuries. The Winter Palace – is the most remarkable and impressive among five buildings. The Palace was built in 1754-1762 by Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli (the architect of Italian origin 1700-1771) project as the royal mansion-house. It makes the unique architectural ensemble along the Neva river embankment and takes the foremost place in the city sight. The museum is divided into five departments and you can familiarize with works of art and culture of various nations of the world.

There is the Antique world cultural history and art department, the Occident cultural history department, the Orient culture and art department, the Ancient culture department, the Russian historical culture and art.
